Meaning and Symbolism
In Victorian England the camellia bloom sent the secret message that the recipient was found to be adorable, charming, and worthy of adoration or veneration. The Camellia also conveys a longing for someone who is missed.

In China, the Camellia represents eternal love, or long lasting devotion. Traditionally, the petals represent the woman, while the green leafy part of the stem that holds the petals together, called the calyx, represents the man who protects her. Usually when the petals fall from the flower, the calyx will stay attached to the tree. However, with Camellias, the petals and calyx fall away together which is why they symbolize deep love and devotion.

The Camellia is the state flower of Alabama, and represents southern beauty.

Genuinely Handmade In Our Studio
The charm and locket started as a block of wax. I carved the Camellia, then we cast it in sterling silver in our studio using the ancient art of lost wax casting. The simple and graceful swing locket is also shaped by hand in wax before casting. The free hanging charm slides open to reveal a message written in the handwriting of one you hold in your heart. We oxidize the locket and flower charm to give it an aged patina, and bring out the details. Finally, we polish it by hand resulting in a rich satin sheen.

The organic nature that lost wax casting can produce is what we are after; evidence that our pieces originate in our heads and hearts, and have been made by our own hands. Our aim is to avoid the sterile, machine made look, and instead infuse warmth and genuineness into our creations.
